happy monday!...and the week of eating in.

As you all know, I really love food: buying, cooking, exploring, etc. So imagine my surprise when I happened upon this article by writer Cathy Erway. She is the brainchild behind Not Eating Out In New York (which sounds nearly impossible, if you ask me) from which the book The Art of Eating In stemmed. The article proposes an experiment for people to cook at home for one solid week because: "Not only do we think this will save you money and get you eating healthier food, we think this will be a fun consciousness-raising activity in better understanding where your food comes from."

It seems that many of us resort to a quick fix simply because it's easy and convenient. And while a lot of us are aware of some of the things we put into our bodies, wouldn't it be even better to know exactly what we were eating? Home-cooked meals not only provide hunger satisfaction, they also give us peace of mind. Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying that we should all forgo eating out and dining at restaurants. Far from it! I'm just saying that we all might get a little bit more out of food, especially if we spent some good old-fashioned quality time with it.

So, will you do this with me? What will you be making tonight? I'd love to know!

  1. hi again,

lets see, tonight i made roasted chicken breast seasoned with some mustard powder and pepper. along with that i mashed up 3 yukon gold potatoes added some fresh garlic some milk and a pat of butter and some pepper of course! we also ate a vegetable medley of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower all steamed with some olive oil and some more fresh garlic and pepper.

not anything to exciting, but yummy and quick to cook! which on a weeknight after a full day of work is a blessing!
