the uniform project.

Sheena Matheiken is a girl. She is also a genius. Combine that and you get the girl-genius behind The Uniform Project. Started in May 2009, Sheena set out to make a statement that would prove to the [fashion] world that being in-style did not necessarily mean following every single trend that came along. This is, essentially, an experiment in sustainability.

"Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir." -Sheena Matheiken

Not only was this a way to expand her creativity simply by looking into her own closet, this is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, an NPO helping to provide education to children in India.

Fashionable, sustainable, and philanthropic. Perfect!

P.S. How cute is she!
