eat your fruits and veggies.

The past few days have left me feeling pretty gross...and that's actually an understatement. This past Monday evening, a few of our neighbors decided to have an impromptu cook-out in our apartment's courtyard. And it was awesome. We're talking bratwurst, burgers, grilled chicken, corn on the cob, asparagus, et al. And yet, the only things I ate were the first three things on the list: the meats. Oh, and to make it worse, I actually ate a hot dog earlier that day with the in-laws. Talk about an excess of processed meats (ew). While it seemed like a good idea at the time (when is this ever a good idea, really?), my stomach and well-being are now disappointed in my choice. Hello! I never, if rarely (!) eat this way and I pride myself on having a fairly balanced diet (with the exception of a once-in-a-blue-moon ice cream). I've felt nothing but uncomfortable for the past four days. And so I've made up my mind to feed my body what it wants: an over-abundance of fresh fruits, fresh veggies, whole grains, and lots of barley tea and water. That always seems to help. What do you guys eat when you feel this heavy? Any advice is welcome!

  1. Leeks. Lots and lots of leeks. Some brown rice. I stay away from breads and any refined sugars for a bit too, that always makes me feel better. Good luck! :)

  2. Lots of lemon water! It's always really refreshing and tasty without being chemically.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Ha! I've been only having liquids the past few days because of my sniffles, I feel like I dropped 10 pounds in 3 days. Luckily tomorrow for Yiayia's birthday I'm making steak :)
Anywhooo, Tanya, you MUST make this soup, it was by far the best soup I have ever had in my entire life. And it's technically a detox soup, screaming with health. And it has miso, which I know you love. And it's super delicious. And it has beets, and if I can bluntly quote Melissa, "beet poop is beautiful."

  4. You girls are the best. I LOVE leeks, so that will definitely be consumed this week. And Stephanie, lots of lemon water AS WE SPEAK! And lastly, Melina, that soup looks friggin' unbelievable. Making it for dinner tonight. Stat!

  5. Augh I've been feeling like that, too! My solution = including veggies with EVERY meal (often I just steam broccoli or roast asparagus), making green smoothies for breakfast, and stuffing my face with watermelon. :D

Just came across your blog and
    A) Fantastic
    B) I drink lots of ginger tea and I feel as light as a feather. Or a really heavy feather but kind of sort of feathery...
